Abstract

The effect of Cr-implantation and Y-implantation on the cyclic oxidation behaviour of a boron-doped Ni3Al intermetallic alloy (obtained through a powder metallurgical route) at 585 C, 730 C, and 990 C in air has been studied. Compared to the non-implanted material, Y-implantation caused slightly higher oxidation rates from the earliest stages of oxidation. Cr-implantation, however, considerably decreased the cyclic oxidation rate due to the formation of a thin alumina layer.
