Power handling in the JET lower hybrid launcher
The lower hybrid current drive (LHCD) system is described, and the power handling of the launcher during the 1994/5 experimental campaign is analysed. The most important limit in power handling is found to be the electric field in the small waveguide at the grill mouth. A system to limit this electric field is described. With an electric field of 400 kV/m there is a 50% chance that a trip and re-application of the power will be triggered. This is a significantly lower operating limit than that reported by other machines.
