A summary report on EC initiatives for assisting in the provision of a European forest data base
The increased awareness of the value of the forests of Europe, other than in the wood industry, has increased the demand for reliable, standardized information on both the statistical and spatial attributes of forests, in the form of geo-referenced databases and maps. This paper describes some of the on-going, and completed activities of the FIRS Project, and how these contribute to the aim of compiling a digital forest data base for Europe.
