Multidimensional simulation of hydrogen distribution and turbulent combustion in severe accidents
The goal of the project is to develop verified and commonly agreed physical and numerical models for hydrogen distribution, mitigation and turbulent combustion, which are suited for the multidimensional computational fluid dynamics (CFD) codes existing at the different partner institutions. The work programme and the activities of the partners during the first 18 months are described. Significant progress has been made in the areas of experiments, model development, model verification and model application to nuclear power plants. Joint benchmark tests were defined and distributed. In addition to the usual partners meetings, three specialists workshops were conducted to harmonize the experimental and theoretical work. The paper summarizes the current status of the different project tasks and gives examples for the achieved multidimensional modeling capabilities.
