  • Investigation of pig iron flow in the blast furnace hearth and of tapping optimisation, particularly in order to reduce wear and tear and to avoid breaches

Abstract

The continuous increase in blast furnaces capacities and changes in their operating modes have resulted in wear phenomena in the hearth area that may impair the safe operation of the furnace even after a short campaign. In order to prolong furnace campaigns and produce suitable conditions for a trouble-free production of molten metal, wear reduction strategies must be implemented. Studies in the hearth area of a blast furnace are hardly feasible while the furnace is in operation. The present research has therefore been based on model trials and numerical simulations.
