Abstract

Since the mid 1980's the European Commission has implemented a series of schemes and programmes providing research fellowships to young European scientists enabling them to carry out a research project outside their home country. For the services of the European Commission it is important to have a sound understanding of the impact of the fellowships on the individual fellow as well as on scientific supervisors and contract administrators in the host institutes, in order to elaborate on the many positive experiences of individuals and institutions and to learn from mistakes which have been made in the past. It is for this reason that the present survey has been commissioned, and the findings are published in this document.
