Abstract

The aim of the research work is to introduce, directly in the hot rolling line, a process providing a temporary protection of the products against atmospheric corrosion. The new treatment is to be applied directly at the exit of a quenching and self-tempering (QST) equipment in order to take advantage of:

- Thin thinness and adherence of scale at that place;
- The reduced temperature of the surface during self-tempering.

Different types of protection were studied:

- Selective oxidation;
- Phosphates, silicates;
- Metallization with Zn.
