Abstract

The iron and steel and rolling mill business have to meet more and more challenges concerning product quality and cost effectiveness. In addition to a favourably high level of automation, the increase in availability of production plants is the main aim of the iron and steel industries. The most important tools in this aspect are the so-called machine monitoring systems, by which the level of usage, and accordingly the remaining lifespan, of prefabricated parts, and groups of parts, can be determined. By means of machine monitoring systems standstill times caused by prefabricated parts breaking down can be minimised.

In the present report, a system to monitor the remaining lifespan of prefabricated parts with a low probability of breaking down was developed. If these parts broke down it would have devastating consequences for the businesses. .
