Abstract

From 1992 until the end of 1994, 700 human capital and mobility (HCM) research networks were selected. Networks are a creation of the HCM Programme whose originality arises from their structure, their large number and their fully horizontal character. Without aiming at a thorough topical view, clustering networks around common research themes has proved an efficient tool for monitoring the diversity and functioning of the networks. Based on the theme of neurobiology, the present publication is part of a series whose ambition is to offer those interested in Community activities some background to form an independent view on research networks, their utility in structuring Europe's science and their potential in tackling present and future EU challenges.
