Abstract

There is not yet a straightforward method for the measurement of the D-T ratio in the centre of a tokamak plasma. One of the simpler measurements put forward in the past is the interpretation of the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) spectrum in the frequency range of the Global Alfvén Eigenmodes (GAE). However, the frequencies of these modes do not only depend on the plasma mass, but on the details of the current and density profiles, creating a problem of deconvolution of the estimate of the plasma mass from an implicit relationship between several measureable plasma parameters and the detected eigenmode frequencies. This method has been revisited to assess its likely precision for the Joint European Torus JET tokamak.
