In order to ensure the timely delivery of analytical results as required for safeguarding large scale reprocessing facilities, the concept of installing analytical safeguards laboratories on site was developed. A project was set up to design and realize the installation and operation of an analytical laboratory at the site of the La Hague reprocessing plant considering the local safety and laboratory waste management constraints. A concept for the analysis of unconditioned samples of the various types of nuclear material originating from the plant have been worked out and is being tested at the Institute for Transuranium Elements.
