European perspectives for the broad use of renewable energies
A breakdown is given for possible contributions of the different forms of using renewable energies in order to reach the goal of doubling their contribution by 2010 in Europe. In addition to the already widely applied use of wind energy and hydropower, large potentials are to be seen for the energetic use of biomass and for the thermal use of solar radiation in the building sector. Whereas European emphasis is on their integration in buildings, photovoltaic systems are also best suited for decentralised electrification in low power ranges to assist developing countries.
