Fission gas release and pellet structure at extended burnup
Fission gas release is an important aspect in the analysis of the thermal and mechanical design of light water reactor (LWR) fuel rods. With increasing discharge burnups more and more attention has to be paid to this aspect. The present paper presents results of fission gas release measurements on fuels rod up to burnups as high as 80 MWd/kgU and correlates the fission gas release behaviour to microstructural features.
