Abstract

Laboratory investigations have been carried out to study the effects of composition and processing variables on the transformation behaviour, microstructures and properties of carbon-manganese steels alloyed using silicon, molybdenum, chromium and phosphorus. Based on the results obtained, production trials have been conducted on both wide and narrow hot-strip mills aimed at developing formable hot-rolled steels possessing tensile strengths within the range 500 to 800 N/mm{2}. In addition, an experimental programme of work has been carried out to examine the relationship between microstructure and properties in TRIP steels.
