Abstract

This project has been based on the application of modern techniques of equipment monitoring, applied to critical aspects of blast furnace plant. The overall objective has been to increase knowledge of the condition of equipment and structures to enable short-term maintenance needs to be predicted and in the long term to encourage longer lives before replacement becomes necessary. Three principal areas have been investigated: tuyère leakage, furnace shell cracking and charging chute condition.
