Evaluation of the PISC III results on steam generator tubes in-service inspection
The main objective of Action 5 of the programme for the inspection of steel components (PISC) III is the experimental evaluation of the performance of test procedures and techniques available to inspect steam generator tubes in nuclear power plants in-service. The exercise was characterized by the geometry (thin-walled tubing), the material (Inconel 600), the large number of flaws, and the inspection techniques (predominantly eddy current with a few teams using ultrasonics). Early in 1990, the experimental programme was formulated. The circulation of the blind test tubes to the 29 participating organizations of 9 different countries was carried out from June 1991 until the end of 1993. The data collection, adaptation and evaluation was completed in 1996. The final report is actually in the approbation phase by the PISC management board.
