Electronic money is the most innovative instrument for electronic payment. Electronic money is indeed considered to be a new form of money, unlike other instruments that may be considered to be electronic options to traditional forms of payment.

The Internet financial system represents a challenge. Its set-up depends necessarily on the contribution of different disciplines. Because of this, one might expect that just a few participants would be able to show competence in the relevant method of co-operation. On the other hand, one should be aware of the fact that only by means of co-operation will it be possible to create a heterogeneous world of participants and knowledge. Economic, technical and political matters that are connected with the process of electronic money development are at present being fragmentarily treated. The role of electronic money among Internet payment instruments has not been clearly defined so far, mainly because of lack of a co-operative strategy. In this study we wish to illustrate different aspects linked to electronic money. We start elaborating a definition of this new instrument of payment and then trace its various possible practical applications within an electronic business world. .
