Abstract

The objective of this research is to investigate the phenomena and the interactions involved in the blast furnace process, particularly in the case of instabilities and irregular operations, in order to give the blast furnace operator supplementary means to link the effects of a given event to the causes to which it is due. The operation data of two Belgian blast furnaces were used to study three types of process instabilities: the flooding of the bosh, the retention of alkalies, and the instability of the thermal state of the blast furnace. Having established a list of factors likely to promote the flooding of the bosh, numerous cases were examined in detail in order to find the blast furnace parameters linked at this perturbation.
