Abstract

The Scatterometer flown on board of the European Remote Sensing (ERS) satellites ERS-1 and ERS-2 is a vertically polarized radar operating at 5.3 GHz (C-band ) and has a spatial resolution of 50 km. In this paper the effects of land cover and seasonal vegetation development are investigated by comparing ERS Scatterometer data with land cover information, normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) data sets, and meteorological observations. As a study area the Iberian Peninsula was chosen.
