Web access to earthquake catalogues
The paper describes some developments in accessing georeferenced information stored on database management systems (DBMS) and geographical information systems (GIS) via the World Wide Web (WWW). The applications have been specifically adapted to give access to earthquake catalogues sponsored by the European Commission, which represent a class of information of interest to a wide range of expert and more general users. Two gateways have been developed giving access to data stored on DBMS and on GIS, and a common interface to both has been provided. Some suggestions for possible future developments are given together with a brief review of some other examples of access to earthquake catalogues currently available on the WWW.
