Abstract

A new platetype mould has been developed and tested for slab casting. The special feature of this so called resonance mould is the suspension of the shaping and heat-dissipating parts in a double guide construction made of leaf springs with servo-hydraulic oscillation drive. By omitting the conventional oscillating table with 4 eccentric drives, the oscillating mass can be reduced by 50%, which has a positive effect on the dynamics of the vibrating system. More than 900 slabs with quality grades sensitive to cracking were evaluated using the resonance mould and a conventional mould in parallel.
