  • Optimization of surface conversion layers on galvanized, aluminium-coated and electrolytically tinned strip by means of photopotential measurement technique

Abstract

The study of the chromium-based conversion treatments in terms of corrosion protection and paint adhesion is important in order to find new alternative treatments. This research project is designed to investigate systems of interest such as zinc and aluminium coatings chromium treated, and tinplate passivated either with chromium or with molybdenum; there are good prospects of this latter conversion system providing a valid alternative to chromates due to its lower toxicity. The scope of this investigation is to analyse the relation between the semiconducting characteristics of the surface conversion layers and the paint and lacquer adhesion.
