Second European report on S&T indicators 1997
This is the second edition of the European Report on Science and Technology (S&T) Indicators. The first part of this Report is devoted to analysing the evolution of Europe's S&T relative to the rest of the World. The relationship between resources and performance, both scientific and technological, and economic growth, employment and competitivity, is looked at in the first two parts of the Report. The second part looks in various ways at the interconnection between intangible investment, the capacity to innovate and the economic and commercial performance of countries, industry sectors and companies. The third part is devoted mainly to an analysis of what is happening at the Community level. The fourth part of the Report is devoted to analysing the development of co-operation within Europe. The fifth and last part of the Report takes up in greater depth, elements from the first report and presents indicators and information on scientific and technological co-operation by the EU and its Member States with, respectively, the other industrialized countries, the economies in transition and the developing countries. As well as including in the Report an executive summary presenting its highlights, a pocket sized Key Figures is provided destined for policy makers. The final innovation is the publication of an interactive CD-ROM destined for researchers and containing more data than the statistical annex.
