Abstract

JOULE, the research component of the Non-Nuclear Energy programme, plays a critical role in the development of innovative and efficient energy technologies including the take up of renewable energies. This publication describes 20 research projects being carried out within JOULE. These examples of identify benefits that both the European citizen and industry could draw from collaborative research undertaken at EU level. Efficient photovoltaic cells and wind turbines, batteries or fuel cells for electric vehicles, cleaner diesel fuels, power plants with CO(2) extraction, are just some of the relevant JOULE research topics carried out in recent years and which have led to very concrete results.
