Comparison of the purity of different commercially available CO(2) types and the effect of a simple purification procedure
For the application of supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) for the extraction of organic trace compounds from environmental samples, CO(2) of high purity is required. Different commercially available CO(2) brands have been analyzed for their impurities and the highly beneficial effect of the use of a charcoal filter for purification of CO(2) was proven. The introduction of a charcoal filter into the liquid CO(2) line in front of the SFE pump reduced the amount of the impurities in all CO(2) types substantially.
