Abstract

Networks are a creation of the Human Capital and Mobility (HCM) Programme whose originality arises from their structure, their large number and their fully horizontal character. Without aiming at a thorough topical view, clustering networks around common research themes has proved an efficient tool for monitoring the diversity and functioning of the networks. Bases on the theme of detectors, the present publication is part of a series whose ambition is to offer those interested in Community activities some background to form an independent view on research networks, their utility in structuring Europe's science and their potential in tackling present and future EU challenges.
