Abstract

This volume contains an overview of the state of hypodemosis in Europe and describes some of the fundamental research on warble flies of cattle, goats and deer. This research was conducted over the last 6 years under the auspices of the European COST Action 811. An overview of the research conducted by the working group features the different subjects investigated. The scope of cooperation covered broad topics. Basic research increased the knowledge of the biology, epidemiology, immunology and molecular biology of Hypoderma spp.. Field studies allowed standardization methods for the evalution of prevalence, to understand the limits of some national regulations and the origins for the large variations in involvement by farmers or local authorities in the control programmes.
