Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

This book examines the story of the setting up of the TIDE research initiative by the Commission of the European Communities in 1991, and looks at the results of the first twenty one research projects, highlighting their accomplishments, suggesting ways in which improvements might be made, and pointing the way towards future developments and potential research projects. TIDE was conceived as providing an integrated and dedicated approach to technological research affecting older people and people with disabilities. The TIDE work began with 21 research and development projects, carefully selected by teams of experts in the fields of rehabilitation technology, and these so-called Pilot Phase projects, which are described in the chapters that follow, ran from 1991 to 1992, and some were extended until 1994.
