Abstract

In order to optimize the quality and corrosion resistance to environmental degradation of galvanized and prepainted sheet steel profiles, the characteristics and behaviour of the different constituting elements have been analysed and their interrelationship to obtain the whole coating. Originally the selected variables were: low carbon sheet steel (two cold reductions and their crystallographic texture; surface roughness; two galvanizing types, Zn 0.16% Al and Zn 5% Al, with two thicknesses each; only one conversion treatment to facilitate the painted layer adherence, a primer as first painted layer; five different primers; same type of final coat. To obtain corrosion resistance results in the undeformed state traditional methods have been used together with salt spry test and outdoor exposure.
