Safety management systems in small and medium sized enterprises involving dangerous substances
In response to accidents involving dangerous substances in industrial activities in Europe and all over the world, the European Council passed in 1982 Directive 82/501/EEC, known as the SEVESO Directive, that set out the legal framework for a more systematic control of major accident hazards involving dangerous substances. The aim of this project is to analyse the existing situation of implementation of safety management systems (SMS) in small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) and to investigate how ready SMEs are to adopt the new requirements of the SEVESO II Directive.
