  • Tritium permeation barrier development of aluminide based coatings on MANET and F82H by vacuum plasma spraying of pure aluminium and subsequent heat treatment: Coating qualification report


This report presents the qualification of tritium permeation barriers on MANET II and F82H martensitic steels developed at IAM - JRC. The barriers are produced by vacuum plasma spray of aluminum and a subsequent heat treatment when the aluminum is diffused into the substrate forming an iron/chromium aluminide. The heat treatment applied to the barrier is the same as the one that the base material needs to undergo in order to become fully martensitic. The layers obtained present good adherence, large permeation reduction factors and self-healing capabilities.
