Abstract

A 3-dimensional nonlinear global gyrokinetic delta f code has been developed, using a finite element representation for the fields and the particle markers. Linear, quadratic and cubic splines in the magnetic coordinates are chosen and expected to reduce the numerical noise associated with the non-smoothness of the discretized electric fields. The first simulations using this code are aimed at validating the numerical model, and at assessing the feasibility of realistic global non-linear simulations using the present day super-computers such as the Cray T3E.
