The seminar on Lessons Learnt from Accidents was an event in a series of seminars related to technical and scientific aspects of the implementation of European Community legislation on the prevention, control and mitigation of major industrial accidents, especially the well-known Seveso Directives 82/501/EEC and 96/82/EC concerning the processing and storage of hazardous chemical substances. The Seminar was meant to give up-to-date information on the experiences in various different Member States of the European Union in the areas of industrial accident occurrences and reporting, analysis of accident causes, identification of lessons learnt and implementation of lessons learnt. For these Proceedings, the presentation materials and background papers felt to have the greatest long-term interest have been selected.
