Information technology in humanitarian mine action
This article discusses the activities of DG VIII and the JRC in the developing of a headquarters geographic information system (GIS) for their activities in Angola. The result will be a prototype tool which will be transformed into a standard management system for all mine activities supported by EC services. A series of GIS and associated databases will be integrated and linked with World Wide Web (WWW) technology to allow personnel based at the headquarters of the organization to directly interrogate, analyse and evaluate information collected by teams working in mine affected areas.
