Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

The DISC project (demonstration of integrated ship control systems) was directed towards the establishment and implementation of an open European (and subsequently world-wide) standard for integrated ship control systems, encompassing marine automation hardware, software and the human elements issues associated with maritime transport. The immediate project objecvtives consisted of:

- The establishment of the skeleton for the future European/International ISC Standard, including the identification of the availability of suitable technologies and the identification of future operational, safety and efficiency improving functions to be adopted by the standard;
- The establishment of the minimum requirements for the feasibility demonstration and validation of the core technologies involved in the suggested standard, and their integration into one coherent system.

The current document is the brief summary of the DISC final report and is an extract of the most general topics to be found in that document. ent.
