In this report the range of current profiles obtained with different pre-heating schemes in actual JET optimized shear experiments and their relation to the achieved performance are analysed. The full potential of lower hybrid current drive (LHCD) for current profile modification for an extensive current profile control in the optimized shear scenario is then assessed in model calculations based on existing JET experimental data. A profile control scenario with LHCD is developed in detail.
