Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

The aims of the research were to build a computer system which is able to manage all the data concerning strata behaviour as a whole. In fact, there are a lot of computer tools, but they are not interconnected. It is also of interest to make a comparison between these data, and the calculations which can be made from the geometrical and geological data. So, there are three principle program modules:

- A geometrical database, including chronology of the workings;
- A database of observations and measurements;
- A calculation module, which could be interfaced with expert systems.

In order to allow communication between these modules, the spacial-temporal coordinates were chosen as a key. The purely geometrical data are treated in a computer-assisted design program (AUTOCAD). Options added to its menu make possible extraction of all data selected on a geometrical criterium. rium.
