Abstract

The report consists of two parts. In the first part the main steps of the calibration of personal dosimeters in terms of the personal dose equivalent H(p)(10) are described. Special consideration is given to International Standardization Organization (ISO) photon reference radiations, conversion coefficients from air kerma to H(p)(10), various calibration methods including routine calibration, and positioning of dosimeters for the calibration. In particular, radiation qualities used for determining the response as a function of the photon energy and of the direction of the incident radiation in an intercomparison of a coordinated research programme of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) are dealt with. The general description of the calibration procedures is supplemented in part 2 by a practical example, the calibration of a personal dosimeter in the field of a Cs-137 gamma source.
