Abstract

The PTB operates a radon standard chamber in which radon and its products are for the first time available under all environmental conditions. All gauges for active and passive radon and its products can be calibrated under realistic climatic conditions. One task of the multi-wire impulse ionisation chambers at the radon standard chamber is to measure radon activity concentrations of less than 50 Bq with 1% precision in the shortest possible time.

The software necessary to evaluate the readings is self-developed. The detection probability of the ionisation chambers can be determined by means of a simulation calculation of the series of events. The multi-wire impulse ionisation chamber is a quick, precise radon detector for the alpha-spectrometry in air under all weather conditions. It is a suitable transfer standard at the radon standard chamber. .
