Radioactive waste categories: Current position (98) in the EU Member States and in the Baltic and central European countries
A Concerted Action Group was set up to examine the subject of European Union harmonization on classification of solid radioactive waste based on disposal. A questionnaire was sent out to representatives of participating countries to assess the classification system currently in use, the extent to which it was included in the regulations and other information that is necessary when considering a common approach to the classification of radioactive waste. The classification systems used in the Member States and the Central and Eastern European Countries who have applied for membership of the EU are described in this report. The information includes the definition of radioactive waste, the legal basis of the classification system, the details of the system in use, the target group for the classification system and brief details of the waste management system in each country.
