Within the frame of the pesticide monitoring programme of the EU, proficiency testing of laboratories is an important prerequisite to achieve reliable results from all member states. Interlaboratory comparison studies in the field of pesticides are challenging for both the attending laboratories and the co-ordinator since a wide range of different compounds and matrices have to be taken into account. In the present study a scheme recently proposed by Lischer has been applied to a proficiency test encompassing 11 different compounds. The new approach allows for a comprehensive evaluation of the whole data set. The benefits and some limitations of this technique are presented.
