Abstract

The research project is endorsed by the European Commission and comprises six parts:

- Investigation of working mines to determine in advance anomalies of potential gas eruptions;
- Barrier seam mining as a method to prevent gas eruption;
- Tectonic principles and desorption characteristics concerning the tendency for gas eruptions in seams;
- Gas binding power properties depending on mechanical pressure;
- Effect of humidity in coal on gas reservoirs and explosive characteristics of coal;
- Predetermination of potential gas eruptions in machine operated seam extractions according to the French method (Ineris-method).

The forecast method used to estimate the amount of released gases in three machine operated seam extraction operations yielded good results. With this method it was possible to calculate fairly accurately the released amounts of gas on a daily and weekly basis and the total amounts over the operating period. Furthermore, a good forecast was made for future mining developments. opments.
