Abstract

Four sets of coke samples were obtained from the British Steel, Teesside Laboratories, for the investigation of changes in the physical and mechanical properties of the coke within a blast furnace as influenced by blast furnace operating conditions, especially coal and oil injection processes. Experimental studies were carried out in terms of size analysis, micum drum strength, tensile strength and microstrength tests, alkali content determinations, optical texture examination and porosity estimation for coke lumps and the assessment of temperatures that the coke experienced in the different regions at the tuyere level of the blast furnace.
