Abstract

In this project the predetermination of mountain and ground movement was researched. The investigation showed that even at great depth highly variable thicknesses within the seams should be considered using interpolation. The analysis carried out within the remit of this project of a variety of compared sites shows conclusively that the discrepancy between measured and predetermined movements is definitely caused by the longterm subsidence of older disused mines and the re-activation of their sinking potential through ongoing mining activities in the neighbourhood. The effect of ongoing mining operations is felt for a much longer period of time than was previously assumed and it depends, by and large, on future mining activities.
