Environmentally unfriendly coal species in gasification processesFunded under: ECSC-COALRES 7C
During gasification, coal components considered to be environmentally unfriendly, for example sulphur, nitrogen, chlorine and the trace elements, are partitioned into several output streams, including char/coke residues and flue gases which enter downstream pollution control devices. The overall aims of this project were to investigate the mechanisms and pathways during gasification to which such components are subjected, and to develop a model to predict their fate under a range of conditions, so that appropriate measures could be devised to minimize their environmental impact.
