Abstract

Focused on the continuous casting of wide slabs in peritectic steel grades, the study performed by CRM in collaboration with Sidmar aimed at:

- Developing a prediction method for the occurrence of longitudinal cracks in slabs;
- Identifying the processing parameters responsible for longitudinal cracking.

In its present stage of development, the crack detection method based on the processing of temperature signals delivered by an mould thermal monitoring (MTM) unit is not yet fully able to deliver an accurate prediction of the slabs affected by longitudinal cracking. The available software can nevertheless be considered as a promising and contributive tool for better assessing the cracking processes and the trends in the selection of optimum casting parameters. ers.
