Non destructive examination (NDE) during fabrication, pre-service inspection (PSI) and In Service Inspection (ISI) are considered key issues for the safe use of Nuclear Energy. In addition, they are an important element of Plant Lifetime Management, which is today a critical item in the decision process on Nuclear Policies. When looking to the Central and Eastern European Countries (CEECs) and to the New Independent States (NIS) operating soviet designed reactors, time has come to establish an industrial co-operation framework with these countries, considering the effectiveness and the adaptability of the European Technology. This paper describes the European NDE Forum (ENDEF) very generally and give some examples of activities (eg development of a strategy to follow for the establishment of co-operation projects).
