Abstract

The energy consumption of the human race has increased dramatically during the last centuries. Nuclear fusion to generate energy is a near inexhaustible and cheap fuel reserve. The reason for plasma rotation is one of the questions which arises in fusion experiments.

Within the parameter of this thesis the physical effects which cause the rotation of the plasma within the linear plasma generator PSI - 1 are researched without resorting to prevailing theories which cannot be applied. This project identifies essential inter-dependencies in experiments and discusses suitable existing and new methods. Diagnostic methods follow a description of the plasmagenerator PSI-1 and the magnetic field configuration. Ions are ideally suited to measure the rotation. The emphasis of this project, therefore, lies on the investigation into the characteristics of the plasma ions. .
