Excitation functions were measured for the 50-Cr(n,np+pn+d)49-V, 58-Ni(n,alpha)55-Fe, 58-Ni(n,alphap+palpha)54-Mn and 62-Ni(n,alpha)59-Fe reactions from 7.5 to 19.4 MeV. Use was made of the activation technique in combination with non-destructive high-resolution gamma-ray spectrometry or X-ray spectrometry after radiochemical separation and thin sample preparation. Quasi-monoenergetic neutrons produced via the 2-H(d,n)3-He and 3-H(d,n)4-He reactions were used to irradiate samples of metallic natural chromium and nickel. The neutron flux densities were determined via the 27-Al(n,alpha)24-Na for (En less than 12.5 MeV) and 93-Nb(n,2n)92m-Nb (for En greater than 12.5 MeV) monitor reactions. Statistical model calculations incorporating precompound effects were found to be in good agreement with the present data, depicting that both first and second chance emission of nucleons are treated satisfactorily in the calculations.
