Improving consumer protection - support for food control
Since 1991, the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC) has given increasing technical and scientific support to European regulatory actions in the field of food, feedingstuff and other consumer goods. Today, it plays an important role in method development harmonisation and validation. In addition, the European Standards Measurement and Testing Programme (SMT) has funded a number of projects on method development, method validation, production of reference materials and dissemination of information to assist food control laboratories in the food safety and food authenticity sectors. Examples of the different types of support activities are presented in this paper.
